Construction Industry Digital Twin Application Case

Exploring a case of a construction site utilizing digital twin software integrated in a robot dog for documentation and monitoring.

Beamo's photo-based digital twin platform leverages 360-degree cameras to create virtual replicas of spaces. A factory construction site successfully implemented the technology for capturing and documenting the  daily construction management. Achieving improved workflow and documentation of of large, inaccessible areas. Furthermore this application of digital twin technology combined with the famous 'Spot' robot dog demonstrates its powerful impact across building and construction.

Beamo's Photo Based Digital Twin For Construction

Beamo's technology significantly improves documentation and collaboration with the 3D workspace. As it allows the use of multiple features like Tag, Comment, Compare, Guide and more. The fast processing software makes it easy to capture diverse spaces. Like indoor environments, tight spaces, large construction sites and more can be turned into a 3D view within minutes. The compact device is easy to deploy for site surveys. As it can be mounted on the back of a robot dog for remote inspection of rough terrains and hard to reach areas. Beamo's application extends across diverse uses for optimizing operations.

The concept of a photo-based digital twin in the construction industry is based on creating a virtual replica or representation of the building site. Beamo's easy and fast processing allows for rapid site capture and immediate generation of a 360-view. For utilization in virtual tours, 3D views as well as daily monitoring

Enhanced Construction Insights Through Digital Twin Technology

In today's technology driven world, large companies are opting for automative capture systems for effective and rapid construction of buildings. The features of digital twin are transformative tools for efficient operations. The technology offers an immersive 360-degree view and virtual tour of spaces that improve work flow and enhance insights. Here’s a look at how Beamo's digital twin technology is transforming the construction sector.

A semiconductor factory in Gyeonggi, South Korea, sought to digitize one of their 6 construction sites for record history and time comparison. Being the world's largest upcoming semiconductor factory, ensuring the efficiency of the building project by recording its daily progress for maximizing the construction process was challenging. Beamo's software was integrated with a 360-degree camera, atop the famous robot dog 'Spot' to capture the dangerous and unreachable vast areas of the construction site to create a digital twin. The company plans to employ the immersive view by capturing the site daily. In order to maintain record history of the construction and have time comparison data. Every nook and corner, including vast areas of this mega construction cluster site will be captured within the virtual space using the 360 capturing functionality. The company can access relevant views and documented information remotely at any time. Additionally, with the ongoing construction, simply capturing the daily changes will allow them to easily attach it to the existing digital twin. In addition to document, the client will use the digital twin for time comparison of the project site.

Set to open in 2042, this ambitious South Korean national project replaced the traditional practice of human site survey, that includes personnels surveying vast, as well as dangerous areas everyday, with a digital twin-based 3D view system. Using the robot dog integrated with Beamo's technology, the client can capture unreachable areas as well as tour through the construction site within the digital twin. Uploading the detailed view captured everyday, makes it easier for the construction crew to monitor and document daily progress and information. And also makes it easier to understand the space through the 3D workspace.

Successful Integration for Record and Time Comparison

The mega construction boasting a total area of 21 million square meters successfully implemented the 3D tour to automate the capturing system. The complex construction process also necessitates the need for surveying the entire landscape and capturing the daily process in order to gain a 3D view and for documentation purposes.

Beamo's technology is a fast and easy solution, where the digital twin is created daily within minutes. The construction managers can view the entire progress in an enhanced manner that is not restricted by time and human effort.

Furthermore, by facilitating the 3D tour to view remotely without having personnels visit the site, the client also achieves smoother work flow and cost saving in construction activities. They will also see a faster development in building the factory because of the futuristic and immersive experience implemented, along with minimized collaborative efforts. Leveraging the digital twin not only optimized the construction operations but also improved the sustainability. By reducing costs and number of documenting shoots through enhanced work processes.
